HISTORY OF THE STAR CONCERT HALL

The Star Concert Hall has been home to many great artists since opening in 1981. It is one of the last historical theaters in Branson.

One of the standout features of the Star Concert Hall is its eclectic mix of performances, including country, blues, and rock music, as well as comedy acts and theatrical productions. Over the years, the Star Concert Hall has been a pivotal part of Branson’s history and the home of many great performers. The building was originally constructed as the Ozark Auto Show Museum. In 1989, the site was converted into a theater for Shoji Tabuchi, who performed there for one year before building his own theater. In 1990, the Star (then called the Ozarks Theater) became home to the famous Mel Tillis, who performed there for several years. In 1992, both Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard called the venue home. In 1993, it was taken over by Loretta Lynn for a time. Later that same year, it became home to the famous comedian Yakov Smirnoff, who performed there until 1997.

Other famous performers at the Star include Eddie Rabbitt, Conway Twitty, John Davidson, Kirby the magician, Boxcar Willie, and Phillip Wellford, to name a few.
